Breakthrough Cancer Pain

Pain-ReliefIt is unfortunate for anyone to experience cancer. The hope is that someday there will be a cure for cancer; however, living with cancer does not have to be painful. Proper pain control is important in the terminally and non-terminally ill patient. As pain may slow your recovery from cancer treatment, it may also prevent you from spending valuable time with family and friends or participating in life-longed activities or milestones.

At Advanced Spine & Pain Interventions, Dr. Davis and Team will develop a plan specifically for your type of pain due to cancer. Cancer pain may be treated with medication (e.g., analgesics, also called “pharmacological pain relief”), without medication (e.g., non-drug treatments, also called “noninvasive measures”), with other treatments (e.g., surgery, radiation therapy, nerve blocks), or using a combination of methods.

Dr. Davis and Team will also develop a special relationship with your family members, oncologist and hospice care, if available, to help make your treatment go as smoothly, as possible. The advantages of treating cancer pain at Advanced Spine & Pain Interventions include:
  1. An In-House Pharmacy: so your pain medication is more likely available. No special ordering or waiting period to get your medication. Also there is a less likely chance of the medication running out because medications are in-house specifically for you.
  2. Interventional procedures that are provided in conjunction with oral medications to either help the medication work more effectively or reduce medication which may result in reduced side effects such as sedation, nausea, constipation and/or vomiting so you can quickly get back to enjoying life! Some interventional procedures include:
    • Nerve Blocks: Which can block cancer pain that is often very debilitating
    • Steroid Injections: Which can significantly reduce inflammation associated with cancer pain
    • Intrathecal Pain Pumps: Which can also help reduce oral medications or allow for higher doses of pain medications to target the site of cancer pain without causing side effects of sedation, nausea, vomiting and/or constipation

banner-hyperhidrosisHyperhidrosis is a medical condition which can greatly affect ones self esteem. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating. Most people experience excessive sweating of the underarms which can creates public embarrassment and insecurities. Hyperhidrosis is an inherited problem that has been seen in almost every ethnic group. People can get used to living with hyperhidrosis but they continue to suffer throughout their lives from it. At Advanced Aesthetic Medicine we offer Botox Cosmetic for the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
Botox For Hyperhidrosis
The purpose of sweating is to keep a constant body temperature through evaporative cooling. Hyperhidrosis is when the amount of sweat greatly exceeds the quantity required for thermoregulation. Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is caused by stimulation of the sweat glands by nerve endings or signals from the brain. These nerves respond to emotional stresses, physical stresses, and increased body temperature that comes with exercise or hot humid weather. Botox can prevent sweating for six to ten months by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter, i.e., acetylcholine, from the nerve endings, that causes the glands to produce sweat.
Hyperhidrosis Procedure
Fifteen to twenty drops of Botox are injected via a very small needle into the hair-bearing skin of each underarm. Normal activity can be immediately resumed, while heavy exercise should be avoided for several hours. Underarm sweating will be decreased anywhere between 48 hours to 3 weeks post treatment. Most patients will obtain the benefit of dryness with one treatment of Botox for six to ten months.
Botox is also used for cosmetic purposes such as reducing forehead wrinkles, frown lines and crows feet.

Genicular Nerve Block

Finally! An Answer to Chronic Knee Pain from Osteoarthritis or the Post-Operative Knee (Knee-Replacement Surgery)

Knee InflammationThis procedure involves a fairly painless and minimally invasive approach! Genicular Nerve Block can also be performed before or after surgery. Radiofrequency neurotomy is applied to articular nerve branches (genicular nerves) of the knee. This is a state of the art procedure that relieves pain in patients experiencing knee pain due to any of the following conditions: Chronic Knee Pain, Degenerative Joint Disease (of the knee), Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, Prior to or following a total knee replacement, Prior to or following a partial knee replacement, Patients unfit for knee replacement or Patients who wish to avoid a knee replacement. The sensory nerve of knee which serves no other purpose in patients with chronic knee conditions but to cause pain are heated through radio-waves and simply put to sleep or made dormant for any time period of 6 months to 2 years. The numerous double-blind studies show that this innovative procedure is effective in relieving chronic knee joint pain.

The procedure is performed in 2 stages:

1. Diagnostic Genicular Nerve Block – this procedure consists of placing a small amount of a local anesthetic, on the genicular nerves. This tests the patient’s response and determines if there is sufficient pain relief in the knee to justify performing a therapeutic neurotomy

2. Genicular Nerve Ablation – during this therapeutic portion of treatment, your pain management physician will perform a radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the genicular nerves, restoring function of the knee and alleviating pain.

Dr. Woodley Davis is triple board certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Management and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Davis has years of experience in Interventional Pain Management and the Minimally Invasive Procedures. Most Insurances cover the cost of this procedure. If you or someone you know is experiencing knee pain from any of the above conditions give us a call at Advanced Spine & Pain Interventions, 470-299-1998.

PRP Is Game Changing

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP Therapy) - Call us to discuss this treatment and your options. 470-299-1998

Super-Concentrated Platelets Help Accelerate Healing of Injured Tissues

We utilize the nation’s most advanced, concentrated and pure form of platelet rich plasma, ensuring the best possible patient outcomes.

PRP Facts & Information

PRP is a next-generation injection procedure commonly used to treat the following conditions:

  • Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Shoulder, Hip and Spine
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Chronic Plantar Fasciitis
  • ACL Injuries
  • Pelvic Pain and Instability
  • Back and Neck Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Ankle Sprains
  • Tendinitis
  • Ligament Sprains

Our platelet rich plasma procedures incorporate significantly higher blood platelet concentrations and are much more pure than PRP offered at clinics utilizing a simple bedside centrifuge to process blood draws. Our PRP therapy procedures produce the best possible patient results and fewer inflammatory side effects due to the purity of the PRP mixture.

How Does PRP Help Heal The Body?

  • The body’s first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells
  • Packed with growth and healing factors, platelets initiate repair and attract the critical assistance of stem cells
  • PRP’s natural healing process intensifies the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets directly into the area in need
  • To create PRP, a small sample of your blood is drawn (similar to a lab test sample) and placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood at high speeds, separating the platelets from the other components. The process is handled manually by a lab technician, producing higher concentrations of platelets and a much more pure concentration of the beneficial blood components
  • The PRP is then injected into and around the point of injury, jump-starting and significantly strengthening the healing process
  • Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a low risk of allergic reaction.
